Faces & Figures 1997
In 1987, Michael and two colleagues began a series of
world class stone sculpture exhibitions on Granville Island, Vancouver, Canada. These exhibitions showcased their art, celebrating contemporary stone sculpture.
These exhibitions were produced, curated and financed entirely by the artists, with no private or corporate sponsorship.
The exhibitions were christened "Faces & Figures" and there were
seven showings over a ten year period. The location of Granville Island was chosen as it draws many visitors to Vancouver and the artists could expand their clientel base by exposing their sculpture to an international audience.
The Faces & Figures shows were an instant success and quickly became an anticipated annual event on the Vancouver art scene.
From the opening night to the close of each show, hundreds of visitors enjoyed the talents of the sculptors and each show was a near sell-out.
This was the seventh and final exhibition, held in Performance Works, celebrating ten years of contemporary stone sculpture in Vancouver. Michael and George Pratt participated, exhibiting over 50 major works.
