Binkley traveled to Maui, Hawaii in December, 2006
to install his latest public art sculpture at Napili Kai Beach Resort.
"Breadfruit Leaf" is a 3 foot cubed white Italian marble memorial sculpture
which was dedicated to the founders of the Resort
in a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony
and sits on a grassy knoll overlooking the ocean.

Binkley was chosen to be among 12 Canadian artists to create and exhibit an artwork
at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, AB, Canada.
"The Mountaineer and the Artist" exhibition
was part of the celebrations for
the 100th Anniversary of the
Alpine Club of Canada.

The exhibition ran October 13, 2006 - January 14, 2007

He was partnered with noted mountaineer, Don Serl
and the two have done a day hike to the Chehalis Range in southern BC, Canada,
where Mr. Serl has opened several routes on Mts. Ratney, Bardean and Viennese.
Binkley has created "Reflections", an abstract in basalt and granite, based upon his impressions of the area.

Binkley Spent the month of April, 2006 carving in Pietrasanta, Italy.
He rented studio space at renowned Studio SEM, where he started work on four major commissions in white Italian marble.

Binkley was commissioned to create this Kermode bear sculpture by
law firm Clark Wilson LLP and it was presented
by British Columbia, Canada's Provincial Premier, Gordon Campbell
at a special Breakfast Meeting at BC Canada Place at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.
Vancouver, BC will host the next Winter Olympics in 2010.

 

 
On September 25, 2004, Michael Binkley was honoured with the
FANS Award
presented by the F.A.N.S. Society and
the Arts and Culture Commission of North Vancouver.

The FANS Award is presented annually to a North Shore artist
who has attained national and international recognition for their work.
Michael joins the ranks of previous honourees such as
Bryan Adams, Robert Cloutheir and Norman Tait.
